Perpetual Help Community Cooperative (PHCCI), formerly known as Perpetual Help Credit Cooperative, Inc. was organized on April 14, 1971 by thirty three (33) pioneer members with a starting share capital of PHP586.00, and was later registered with Cooperative Administrative Office on February 18, 1972 under Republic Act No. 2023. On May 19, 1975, it was re-registered as a full-fledged cooperative with the Bureau of Cooperative Development under Presidential Decree No. 175 and Letter of Implementation No. 23.
Later, PHCCI’s registration was confirmed by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), the new governing body created under Republic Act 6938 to govern and supervise all cooperatives established in the Philippines. With the plan to offer more services, the Articles and By-laws of PHCCI were amended on March 18, 1999. Among the key provisions being changed included, among others: the conversion of its classification from credit cooperative to multi-purpose cooperative.
Hence, being a multi-purpose cooperative PHCCI has opened avenues to launch or institute other products and services such as subdivision project, hostel & restaurant, memorial park, and money transfer (as agent
). However, providing providential and productive loans to its members remain the core services of the cooperative.
The cooperative’s area of operation as provided in its articles of cooperation covers the entire region of Visayas. As of December 31, 2012, the PHCCI has a total resource of PHP1.23 billion serving 35,709 members across four provinces, namely Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Cebu and Bohol. To date, it has established four (4) branches, one in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, Siquijor Island, Tagbilaran, Bohol and Bayawan City, Negros Oriental. With three (3) satellite offices in Sibulan, Valencia and Bais Negros Oriental.
