It is of great pleasure for me to share with you my thoughts in the first issue of our newsletter, the PHCCI Bulletin, for the year 2013.
I believe that our PHCCI Bulletin is one of the effective ways of bringing up to date information to our members on what has been happening in our cooperative. We can show the products, programs, services, activities, achievements and progress the coop has made.
I have been saying and will say it again that PHCCI is committed to the empowerment of its members by giving them leverage over others in terms of accessible products and services. At PHCCI, we aim to better the lives of members by inculcating in them the value of savings and responsible spending, and the value of self-help and sufficiency.

Last November 23-25, 2012, an international seminar on cooperatives was conducted in Bangkok, Thailand at the Grand Miracle Convention Center.
Sponsored by the Katsetsart University and the Credit Union League of Thailand, (CULT), it is hoped that in the near future, all parts of the economic system in Asian countries, including the cooperative movement will be integrated into the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). The establishment of the AEC which is hoped to materialize by 2015, will be a chance for the ASEAN countries to increase trade and economic cooperation.

Dear Members,
Peace!
As we start the year 2013, let us look back on how we fared in 2012, a year filled with challenges.
At the beginning of 2012, the Cooperative was still trying to recover from the devastation brought about by typhoon Sendong to Metro Dumaguete and Tanjay City when another calamity hit the northern part of Negros Oriental province brought about by the series of earthquakes.

We are living in the so called "exponential times" where everything under the sun happens in an instant. Especially with the advent of technology, anything can happen with the blink of an eye. Gone are the days of old when business leaders and managers of stable entities chuckle "If it ain't broke why fix it?”.
Today, the challenge is always thinking ahead; even think beyond the boundaries of what the current time offers; think before things break for you to fix it. This is such a challenge faced by everyone, and our cooperative is not spared from this reality; especially when it comes to the products and services that we offer.

Believe in the power of believing
For years, people thought that running a mile in less than 4 minutes was impossible. It was scientifically proven that nobody was physically capable to achieve such a feat in athletics. But one man had a big dream. He dreamed not only of becoming a world champion but to break the “four minute barrier”. He set his goals, trained hard and focused on his dreams. He believed that the “four-minute mile was not out of reach”. In less than two years of hard work and determination, in 1954, Roger Bannister surprised the world with his new 3 minutes, 59 seconds world record and the 'four minute barrier' has since been broken by many male athletes.
